What’s the plan?
A UK contingent of a maximum of 12 people will fly into Budapest, Hungary on 19 September to meet with the Hungarian Pastors. The Team will visit some of the Hungarian churches moving from Hungary on 21 September 2009 into Romania, Ukraine & Slovakia. They will be traveling around by minibus, visiting a number of cities within those countries where they will meet with, talk with and pray with our “persons of peace”. They will move back to Hungary on 25 September where they will again spend time with the Hungarian churches before flying home on 28 September.
The prayer tour will be hosted by Dr. John Moore (Hungarian DS) and the Hungarian coordinator will be Rev. Gyula Fiak. The UK coordinator is Karen Daily. The other Hungarian pastors that will participate include: Imre Gusztin, Maria Gusztinne, Gabor Veres, and Miklós Tulipán.
Why a prayer tour?
A prayer tour moves God’s people into new territory. It entails following the directions Jesus gave his disciples. In Luke 10 Jesus says to go into the town or village and look for people of peace. People of peace are welcoming; they are open; they are interested in entering into dialogue. When the disciples connected with a person of peace they were to stay with her/him and share God’s story. Jesus said, “I will come to
them.”
You can see that this approach to sharing the story of God is heavily dependent on prayer, listening and learning. It is highly relational. This is not a maxi-pressure sales approach or dumping our views on an unwitting “prospect”. It is about prayer.
Jesus also tells the disciples what to do when there is no person of peace to welcome them. They were to go on to another place until they met those who had been prepared by the Spirit.
History
In 2004 the British Isles South District (BISD) NMI Council had an idea to carry out a prayer tour to encourage, pray & share with a number of churches in Northern Europe. After much prayer and planning , in September 2005 a team of 12 people from the BISD along with Philip McAllister the Regional Field Director for North Europe embarked on that tour. We visited and prayed with churches, pastors and congregations in Hungary, Poland and Germany and we were blessed as much as we blessed others. Our visit inspired the German districts to organize a prayer tour of their own and gave the Hungarian Pastors a desire to forge links and pray for their neighboring countries. The BISD was planning a second tour and the final result of this, is our joint tour for 2009.
How can I pray?
Pray that God will direct us to our persons of peace within each country.
Pray for the Pastors as they prepare for the tour that God will supply the funds and give them a vision for their neighbors.
Pray for the UK Team that God will inspire and provide means for his people of prayer to take part.
Pray for Karen, Gyula & John as we plan the tour that all our preparations will be God centered.
